Jimmy on swimming laps

Finally, a setlist that accommodates the Gen Z contingent of Polyphony and its audience. Charli and Chappell’s inclusion broke my heart when Jack posted the setlist for this concert to our Facebook page shortly after I’d locked in an interstate move; the setlist most designed for my tastes would be my first watching from the audience. Looking back on that moment is strange, knowing the heartbreak we were yet to endure.

You are likely already familiar with the tune of ‘Apple’, an especially Zeitgeist-y song of Brat Summer and TikTok dance fame. I have no doubt that if he were conducting this concert, Jack would have performed it from the stage in a spotlight-induced moment of ecstasy. He may have even enlisted several choir members to do it with him.

This song and its album soundtracked my regular laps at the local pool for about six months, so I know it intimately. It’s the perfect mix of momentum and mood. Put it on next time you’re working out. This is another reason that ‘Apple’, Jack, and I are entwined. Jack and I swam many laps together – as I know he did with several Polyphony members. In 2019, Jack, Catherine, and I did a charity swim for Batyr’s ‘Splash the Stigma’ campaign, raising money for youth mental health. More recently, our Oli fundraised for ‘Laps for Life’, another youth suicide prevention charity, in honour of Jack.

Memories of Jack are high on the list of things that float across my mind while I’m in the pool. I often think about how much I loved Jack, and how amazing it was that he was both a singer and a swimmer despite having severe breathing issues from early childhood. To quote Charli, I think about it all the time.
